A Friend Loves at All Times

A Friend Loves at All Times

God designed us not to live out lives of solitude, but to lift each other up, to encourage each other, and to find joy and strength in Christian community. First, God friended you—and with that kind of abundant love in your heart, you can go out and be a friend to your neighbors, classmates, colleagues... anyone in need of a listening ear or a shoulder to lean on.

“How many slams in an old screen door?

Depends how loud you shut it.

How many slices in a bread?

Depends how thin you cut it.

How much good inside a day?

Depends how good you live ’em.

How much love inside a friend?

Depends how much you give ’em.

–Shel Silverstein

God designed us not to live out lives of solitude, but to lift each other up, to encourage each other, and to find joy and strength in Christian community. First, God friended you—and with that kind of abundant love in your heart, you can go out and be a friend to your neighbors, classmates, colleagues... anyone in need of a listening ear or a shoulder to lean on.

Proverbs 17:17 says, “A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity.”

We get by with a little help from our friends! Friendship is an incredible gift from the Lord, and while all of us will face adversity in our lives, God gives us special soul mates—friends—to talk to, to walk alongside, and to help us through the tough times.

What do you love most about your best friends? Strive to be the kind of friend who models faith, hope, love, and Jesus. These qualities will make you a friend worth knowing and a blessing to all.
