When “Life Happens”

When “Life Happens”

Let’s face it, sometimes “life happens”. We all encounter challenges, obstacles, trials and circumstances that want to make us throw up our hands and give up. But, the good news is that Jesus is alive, He loves us and cares for us. AND, He wants us to overcome.

When Everything Falls Apart

Do you feel like you’re falling apart today? It’s okay to say yes.

Life is life, and we all have obstacles to overcome. Maybe your issue is ongoing, or maybe it’s a sudden thing. But please think of it this way: Jesus is alive and He knows who you are and He cares about your problems.

Colossians 1:17 says, “He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.”

Jesus is not caught off-guard by problems in your life and most importantly, He truly cares for you and is able to help. Remember what the Bible says: Jesus holds everything together! That includes the whole you.

If you’re really struggling, tell Jesus. Then drink from the living water He provides. He was here at the beginning, He is present now, and He will be standing at the end of your road to welcome you home one day.

Count on it.

Let’s pray.

Lord, you have all our stuff well in hand. Help us remember that every day. Amen.

Meeting Jesus Over Coffee

Carol had really messed up in her personal life. The career wasn’t going so well, either. But it was one particular relationship that kept her up at night, and she felt like things were coming apart.

Instead of going to lunch with co-workers one day though, she ducked into a coffee shop and found an empty seat in the back. There she pulled out her phone and fed her soul by looking up Scripture.

She met Jesus that day in the coffee shop.

Carol looked out a window at the busy street outside and thought about the Bible’s claim that Jesus created everything in the beginning. The enormity of that really spoke to her, but so did His love for her as an individual.

Colossians 1:17 says, “He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.”

Jesus sees all and works everything out for those who love Him.

Tell Him that you need Him today.

Let’s pray.

Lord, we need you all the time. You sustain us and do it just because of your pure love for us. Thank you for that. Amen.

Learning From Colossians

Colossians is a very informative book. Originally, it was a letter written by Paul and Timothy to believers in a small city. Chapter One tells us that Jesus made everything we see (and plenty we don’t see!). The universe was brought into being by Him.

That’s kind of a comforting thought! This great source of Love also made it all and He sustains it all.

Colossians 1:17 says, “He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.”

Many people, maybe rightly so, worry about the planet. Certainly there are lots of issues that are problematic.

But what if we focused on the fact that everything Jesus has told us is 100 percent true? That would mean that He sustains our beautiful planet, so designed for human life to thrive.

It also means He sees into your heart and mind and knows just what you need.

He holds you together.

Let’s pray. Lord, your sustaining work keeps evil at bay in our world. We are grateful for your promises for the future. Amen.

Jesus at the Center

Hurricane Dorian recently caused a lot of anxiety and destruction. Many of us worried about the east coast of our own country, but the Bahamas got hit really hard, with the storm basically stationary for many hours.

Chella Phillips, from Nassau, thought of the least of these. She opened her home to 97 terrified, homeless dogs!

Sending a message to the outside world, she said:

"97 dogs are inside my house and 79 of them are inside my master bedroom. We have barricaded the refuge and nobody is outside, the music is playing in all directions of the house and the AC is blowing for them."

Whether she knew it or not, Chella modeled the love of Jesus for creatures He cares about.

Colossians 1:17 says, “He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.”

Jesus was not only with the people of the Bahamas, He loved those animals, as well. Why? Because no one is too far away from Him, and all matter.

Let’s pray.

Lord, thank you for caring about anyone and everyone. It’s who you are. Thank you for loving all of us through life’s storms. Amen.

The Prodigal Son

The story of the Prodigal Son is one we can all relate to. The Bible tells the story of a brash young man who leaves his home after asking for his inheritance. His loving father complies and let’s just say the son learns some valuable lessons on his travels.

Eventually he humbles himself and comes home; he needs his father and his family.

It is really a story of Jesus and us.

Matthew 7:7, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”

We screw up sometimes. Maybe it’s so bad we can’t see a way back.

That’s when Jesus stretches out His arms and welcomes us home. He isn’t as concerned with where we’ve been as He is where we end up. His perfect love and forgiveness are the only real ointment for our self-inflicted wounds. If you think you’ve screwed up too much, or fallen too far, put that out of your mind and simply tell Jesus you need Him.

Let’s pray. Lord, your willingness to welcome us back to fellowship is something to behold. We are grateful for your grace. Amen.
