He'll Never Abandon You

The prophet, Isaiah, lived during a difficult period for the ancient Israelites. Turning away from faith in God and under the control of corrupt kings, the nation entered a period of darkness. They needed hope more than anything.

In our discussion this week, we will talk about this human condition. Today, we are really no different from people in ancient times: We all need a relationship with our Creator.

Isaiah 40:31 says, “Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

Don’t those words give you a feeling of peace and calm? You can say them to yourself, with no one around, and begin to feel God’s strong arms wrapping you in love. He wants you to be free from all the strongholds that keep you from your destiny.

Wouldn’t you like to spend the rest of this week at rest emotionally and mentally? You can. This is the Lord’s will for you, as we heard in this famous passage from the book of Isaiah

Let’s pray. Lord, your perfect love always comes through for us. Just as you didn’t abandon your people long ago, we know you will remember us. Amen.

On the Winds of Peace

If you’re like most people, the more chaotic life gets, the more you need a solution broken down in easy-to-understand concepts.

We’ve been discussing what happens when people move away from God, and the consequences that impact us.

Isaiah 40:31 says, “Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

Besides the soothing beauty of the language, notice that God gives us several elements to meditate on, as we walk the road to peace.

We are clearly told here to hope in the Lord. He will then strengthen us. After this comes the fun part! Close your eyes and see yourself floating on the winds of peace, high above the chaos and troubles below. Finally, we are told that our strengths in the Lord will not wear out.

When God redeems, He does it completely — and with no strings attached!

He loves you that much.

Let’s pray. Lord, you actually make it easy for us to leave the chains that confine us. We praise Your Name. Amen.

When Faith Becomes Grounded

Are you a person that has walked away from your faith? Maybe you believed once, very much, but it faded over time. Maybe you accepted the promises of God for a little, while but then something else caught your eye.

That’s not uncommon. Starting out on fire for God and then becoming weary is something many of us have dealt with. To use a flying analogy for our talk today, sometimes your flight of faith becomes grounded.

Isaiah 40:31 says, “Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

This famous verse, now on millions of framed prints, coffee mugs and yes, T-shirts(!) has given hope to countless people. There are critics of the Bible, or those who claim not to believe in God, but too many people have taken it to heart and found out that the words are true. God does lift us up from our burdens, and puts us to flight. Just like a bird leaving the safe hands of its master.

If you are tired today, tell God. If you’re hiding it from family and friends, don’t try to hide it from the Lord. He knows already, anyway.

If you trust Him, freedom will follow.

Let’s pray. Lord, your mercies endure forever. Help us be ready to tell others about you. Amen.

Where Eagles Fly

There’s a reason the Bible uses so many metaphors. The wisdom God has for us lends itself well to short narratives, and we learn much from stories.

A famous passage from Isaiah we’ve been discussing this week uses a powerful mental image to convey deep truths from God.

Isaiah 40:31 says, “Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

The sight of a majestic eagle, flying high above the ground…well, it can just make us feel good. It inspires. Gliding on the wind, the eagle dominates the place we’d like to be.

This gorgeous creature is exactly where God wants it to be. Free and sure of its place in the world, the eagle uses its extraordinary eyesight to see the big picture.

This is the place God wants you to be, and why He uses this verse in Isaiah to let us know our aspirations are not limited to the ground, not dependent on gravity.

Like the majestic eagle, let God free you to fly, in every area of your life.

Let’s pray. Lord, your beautiful creation inspires us. Put us to flight, so that we go the place you have prepared for us. Amen.

Stuck 2U Like Glue

Do you tend to be a fair-weather friend? Do you stay strong when times are good, but run away if things are difficult? Nothing will ruin a relationship more than that.

Let’s be honest here: There is someone in your life who needs your help and strength. Maybe you need to step it up in that area.

Jesus is a perfect example of loyalty to others; by following His lead, we can learn what genuine loyalty looks like.

John 14:6 says, “Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’”

Jesus stuck to you like glue when He experienced the most danger to Him personally. His death on the cross was frankly so much bigger than anything you’re facing…we don’t have an excuse to let down anyone in our life.

Jesus held out His hand and told you that He would lead you home. Practicing that type of loyalty in our daily lives will serve as a remarkable example to those who need to see some loyalty.

Let’s pray. Lord, your love inspires us every day. Thank you most of all for what Jesus has done for us. Amen.
