True Grit

True Grit

Have you ever had your heart broken? Not just in a Hallmark-movie-of-the-month kind of way, but by a friend, spouse, or family member? Maybe you allowed yourself to be vulnerable, and a friend betrayed your confidence.

No grit, no glory! Give your fight to God, and give Him credit for every victory.

Sometimes the challenges we face in this life are more than we want to deal with — maybe even more than we can handle. The Lord’s ways are not our ways, and as we seek to follow Him, we begin to think about things differently. If life was easy all of the time, how would we learn to lean on God? How would we build our faith muscle, and grow strong characters in Christ? The struggles we face mold us into who we are becoming, and teach us to turn to Jesus when the going gets tough.

Romans 5:3-4 says, “Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.”

Faith in God gives us courage, strength, and grit. We’re not in this alone; God goes with us, and is faithful to hold us in His mighty right hand. We can take courage and set aside fear when we take up the cross and choose to follow Jesus. It takes guts to set aside worldly things and take up the cross, and that’s what true grit is all about.
